National Convention
Held annually in a different city, the convention brings together thousands of the best and brightest scientists, mathematicians, and engineers to celebrate our Familia through our STAR Awards, compete for top prize money, and enhance skills and networking through our many workshop sessions and engagement events. For corporate sponsors, it is a beacon of top STEM talent. For SHPE members, it is a life-changing opportunity to build a dream career.

What is SHPE?
SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) is the leading organization for Hispanics in STEM. Our mission is to change lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development. At UVA, we focus on bridging the gap between academics and industry while building a strong, supportive "familia."
What will I get from joining the club?
By joining SHPE UVA, you get:

Can I join at any point in the semester?
Yes! You can join our familia at any point during the Fall or Spring semesters. While we highly recommend joining early to make the most of our workshops, mentorship programs, and national convention preparation, our doors are always open to new members.
What if I am not an engineering major?
You are absolutely welcome! While our core focus is STEM, SHPE is open to all majors. Whether you are in business, the arts, or a health field, the professional development, leadership training, and networking skills you build here will apply to any career path.
How often do you meet?
We hold regular General Body Meetings (GBMs), alongside dedicated technical workshops, professional development sessions, and social events throughout the semester. Keep an eye on our official calendar and social media channels for specific weekly or bi-weekly schedules!
Do I have to have a SHPE National membership to attend events?
No, you do not need a national membership to attend our regular on-campus meetings and hangouts. However, becoming an official, paid SHPE National member unlocks major benefits, including eligibility to attend the National and Regional SHPE Conferences, access to exclusive scholarships, and entry into the national career center database.
